Three seeds moved into semi-finals along with the sole qualifier who sneaked in among them at "PTT Women's Circuit 1" in Rama Garden Hotel Tennis Center, Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday (June 11, 2009). Top seed Ayu Fani Damayanti from Indonesia sealed a comfortable victory over sixth seed South African Lizaan Du Plessis 6-2, 6-2 and she will face local fourth seed Nungnadda “Jib” Wannasuk in the last four round. In quarterfinal, resurgent Wannasuk dispatched slightly improved seventh seed Lavinia Tananta of Indonesia 6-4, 6-1. Now, Wannasuk leads 2-1 in her head to head against Tananta.
Second seed Thai Varatchaya Wongteanchai secured her semi-final berth as she edged past South Korean Han Sung-Hee 6-4, 6-4 and she will be challenged by German qualifier Sarah-Rebecca Sekulic. Left handed Sekulic ousted third seed Indonesian Jessy Rompies in a fierce battle which she won 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(6). Experienced Rompies actually managed to lead along the final set but she failed to take opportunity while she had 2 match points and then Sekulic fought back during tie break and closed it out. Indeed, Sekulic earned first ever 10K’s semi-final of her career.
In double’s semi-finals, local unseeded pair Suchanun Viratprasert/Varatchaya Wongteanchai came back from a tight first set down to defeat fourth seed duo Renee Binnie/Kristina Pejkovic of Australia 6-7(5), 6-3, 10-7. Meanwhile in the other last four round battle, duet Tomoko Dokei/Yoo Mi (Japan/South Korea) experienced tough first set but prevailed to win 7-6(1), 6-1 over wild card pair He Chun-Yan/Natchanok Saenyaukhot (China/Thailand).
