Fifth seed Hwang survives the scare in opener of Gimhae 25K

Only six singles’ first round matches were scheduled along with four doubles’ opening round matches at “ITF Gimhae International Women’s Circuit” with total prize money of US $ 25,000 on Tuesday (June 2, 2009). The only seed in action was fifth seed Hwang I-Hsuan from Chinese Taipei who had difficulty in the opening set and eventually she came back to win 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 over Aussie Monika Wejnert. Also cruising into second round was China’s Xie Yan-Ze as she eased past Thai Nudnida “June” Luangnam 6-2, 6-2, followed by American Lena Litvak who breezed past local wild card Hong Hyun-Hui 6-2, 6-1. A bitter end suffered by resurgent local player, Kim So-Jung who lost to Aussie Shannon Golds 1-6 retired. Meanwhile two more opening rounds were in favor of local players as wild card Yoo Mi edged past China’s Liang Chen 6-4, 6-2 and then Chang Kyung-Mi outclassed another local wild card Kim Ji-Ae 6-1, 6-2.

Two weeks in a row, China’s Lu Jing-Jing stayed as top seed and again this week she is topping the main draw here at “ITF Gimhae International Women’s Circuit” which is held at Gimhae Neung Dong Tennis Courts. Lu focuses on playing singles only this week, she will begin her campaign against her compatriot, qualifier Sun Shengnan in the first round on Wednesday. Second seed Japanese Ryoko Fuda will clash with local qualifier Kim Hae-Sung also in the opening round.

Meanwhile third seed is local number one player, Lee Jin-A and she will try to get her revenge over Indonesian veteran Romana Tedjakusuma in the first round. Fourth seed is 19 years old Han Xinyun from China, recent winner at Goyang 25K this past week-end and she will face China born Zhang Ling of Hong Kong. Followed by sixth seed Zhou Yi-Miao of China who will begin her campaign against qualifier Liu Chi-Fan from Chinese Taipei. The two remaining seeded players, seventh seed local player Lee Ye-Ra is drawn to meet her compatriot, qualifier Kim Na-Ri in the first round, then eighth seed Vivian Segnini of Brazil will clash with qualifier Chen Yi from Chinese Taipei.
