Three seeds crashed out in the quarterfinals of “17th International Junior Tournament of Offenbach/Main” in Offenbach, Germany on Friday (June 12, 2009). Unseeded local player Anna-Lena Friedsam posted the biggest shock as she demonstrated her strong fight in such thriller to beat top seed South African Chanel Simmonds 6-2, 6-7(5), 7-6(3). Another upset was made by another local player, seventh seed Sina Haas who ousted third seed Norwegian Ulrikke Eikeri 7-5, 6-2. These two German girls indeed tarnished the very possible semi-final battle between Simmonds and Eikeri. Therefore, local fans are guaranteed to see their local hero in the final as Friedsam and Haas through into the last four round.
Also continuing her run into semi-final was Klara Koprivova from Czech Republic after she surprised 15th seed Polina Pekhova of Belarus 7-6(5), 6-3. Koprivova will challenge ninth seed Cristina Dinu from Romania then. Dinu secured her semi-final spot after she crushed Croat Antonela Susak 6-0, 6-2.
In doubles’ semi-final, first time partnership between Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing of Indonesia and Russian Anastasia Mukhametova still continued into final. In the battle of two unseeded pairs, Ysidora Tobing/Mukhametova managed to overcome fierce opposition from Belarus duet Lidziya Marozava/Polina Pekhova and they prevailed 7-6(4), 7-5. In the final, duo Indonesian and Russian will challenge second seed pair Ulrikke Eikeri/Hilda Melander (Norwegia/Sweden) who bounced back after a set deficit to defeat eighth seed duo Klara Koprivova/Dana Machalkova (CZE) 6-7(1), 6-3, 10-3.
