Damayanti grabbed her fourth title in Hamilton
Unseeded 20 years old Ayu Fani Damayanti came out as the winner in the final battle against Thai sensation and fourth seed Noppawan "Nok" Lertcheewakarnn at "ASB Pro Circuit" in Hamilton, New Zealand today. In her first meeting against world junior numero uno, the most talented among all four players from "Big Mama" entourage had to work extra as Chiang-Mai born Lertcheewakarn imposed strong fight till the end. After all, Damayanti's slight better tactic and mental toughness in critical points brought her to add her fourth title of 10K into her career record. Damayanti edged past her younger Thai opponent 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Three other titles she made in Jakarta 2005 and 2006 then her last title came in Manila in November 2008. Damayanti is on track as she is trying to get closer to her best rank of her career at WTA 358 in 2007. By joining the elite camp owned by "tennis diva" Martina Widjaja, it was obvious that Damayanti hoped to have more tourneys as she was out of overseas competition for a year until November 2008 and as its consequence, her world rank slipped drastically.
It was a bitter end for Lertcheewakarn who played her fourth 10K final after Jakarta and Bangkok in 2007 when she finished as runner-up then she got her maiden 10K title in Chiang-Mai last year. The Thai girl as runner-up here is awarded 8 rank points, while Damayanti earned 12 rank points as the winner.
