Ravita falls immediately in Barbados Grade 4
14 years old Nadia Ravita of Indonesia (ITF 907) returned to ITF Junior Circuit by participating in “Barbados Junior International Championships 2009” held in St. Michael, Barbados. As direct entrant to the main draw, in the opening round she faced second seed Italian Gaia Sanesi (ITF 338) and she barely lost 4-6, 6-7(4) yesterday. Sanesi will turn 17 years old tomorrow on April 1, 2009. Third seed American Tristen D Zewar had an easy first round outing as she crushed local wild card Gabriella Lopez 6-1, 6-1. Two more seeds also advanced into the second round when seventh seed Lauren Chypyha of Canada and eighth seed Russian Adel Arshavskaya claimed their first round victory. Chypyha had to work hard to beat Olga Gaisturk of Ukraine 7-5, 6-4, while Arshavskaya crashed local wild card Zahra Stewart 6-0, 6-0. Another Asian player beside Ravita in the main draw was Japanese Rika Takuno who was beaten by Canadian Melissa Mc Queen 1-6, 2-6.
The other seeds are scheduled to play their opening stint today. Top seed Russian Renata Arshavskaya (ITF 313) will play against local wild card Ancia Ifill, then fourth seed Fausthyara Pietersz of Netherlands Antilles will clash with Maria Sharapova’s cousin, Daria Sharapova from Belarus. The two remaining seeds, fifth seed Canadian Jelena Tomasovic will meet Daryna Savchuk of Ukraine, while sixth seed and qualifier, Skylar Kuykendall from USA will face German Frizzi Bschorer.
