From the second leg of “Jubilee School ITF 14 & Under Asian Championships” at Kemayoran Tennis Center, Jakarta, Indonesia could only hope for the two girls left into quarter-finals. After first round bye, top seed and last week winner, Katherine Ip from Hong Kong had difficulty in the opening set but she prevailed to win over Thai Apichaya Runglerdkrian 6-4, 6-1. In the last eight round, Ip will face challenge from Indian Tarranum Handa who shocked eighth seed Chueh Chu Chen of Chinese Taipei 6-1, 6-4. Meanwhile third seed Alina Abdurakhimova of Uzbekistan sealed an easy victory over Yu Yuan-Yi from China 6-2, 6-3. In quarterfinals, Abdurakhimova will get challenge from local talent Voni Darlina who trailed in the first set but then she had an easy labor as she cruised past Ching Pang of Hong Kong 5-7, 6-0, 6-1. Fifth seed Sun Zi-Tue from China also moved into the last eight round after she ousted Thai Nahathai Khuntaket Thailand 7-5, 6-2. Sun will play against fourth seed Samitha C Sai of India who crushed Bali resident, Jeany Ratnasari Anastasia 6-0, 6-2. Surprise was also made by China’s You Xiaodi who put a fierce fight to defeat sixth seed Gornganok Tiraganok from Thailand 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. In quarterfinals, You will try to stop second seed Aldila Sutjiadi who posted another win over Polina Marenkova from Uzbekistan 7-5, 6-1.
Four seeds in boys’ singles all crashed out in the second round yesterday (03/27/2009). Top seed and last week winner, Ameer Naow from Syria was beaten by Ismailov Temur of Uzbekistan 3-6, 4-6. Next Temur will challenge sixth seed Chung Hyeon of South Korea who fought hard to beat Hong Kong player, Cho Hyun-Duk 7-5, 7-5. Fourth seed of Thailand, Krittin Koaykul secured his berth into the last eight round after he defeated Wong Chun-Hun from Hong Kong 6-4, 6-1. Koaykul will play against Indian Abhishek Alla who saw-off fifth seed and the sole local hope Nur Adim Ramdhani 6-1, 6-3.
Wichaya Tongjaroenchakul from Thailand also shocked eighth seed Yeung Pak Long of Hong Kong 6-2, 6-2 and in the last eight round he will challenge third seed of South Korea, Jeong In-Kyo who dispatched Aleksander Ernepesov of Turkmenistan 6-0, 6-4. Another surprise was made by Indian, Vishal Passi who had an easy work to defeat eighth Kim Young-Seok of South Korea 6-0, 6-3. In quarterfinals, Passi will clash with second seed Nguyen Hoang Thien of Vietnam who ousted Thai Parl Rungsueborirak 6-3, 6-0.
