Damayanti fails to overcome top seed Hwang
Indonesian last hope Ayu Fani Damayanti has been struggling in her two earlier rounds here as she played three sets consecutively and today she had to pay the price with defeat in the quarter-finals. In the final leg of “ASB Pro Circuit” with total prize money of US $ 10,000 held in Wellington, New Zealand, Damayanti ran out of gas and bowed out to top seed “sleepy eye” Hwang I-Hsuan from Chinese Taipei 4-6, 2-6.
Hwang is still in her quest to claim her maiden 10K title as she crushed by Zhang Ling in the final of North Shore City almost 2 weeks ago. In the semi-final tomorrow Hwang will have back to back semi-final clash with qualifier Kim So-Jung of South Korea after their last four round outing in the first leg. In today’s quarter-finals, Kim had to work hard until she eventually defeat qualifier Hao Jie from China 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. Kim will play only her third 10K semi-final, while the other two semi-finals were in 2003.
In the last four round match tomorrow, another qualifier Lizaan Du Plessis of South Africa will face fifth seed South Korean, Chae Kyung-Yee. In today’s last eight round Du Plessis cruised past, Kim Hae-Sung of South Korea 6-2, 6-4. While Chae edged past second seed Thai, Montinee Tangphong 6-4, 6-2. Du Plessis will appear in her 10th semi-final of 10K, while Chae’s last 10K semi-final was in Go Yang, South Korea back in September 2008.
Amazing race sealed by duo Kim So-Jung/Ayaka Maekawa (South Korea/Japan) who grabbed their third title in three weeks after North Shore and Hamilton. In today’s final, they edged past qualifier Chae Kyung-Yee/Kim Hae-Sung of South Korea 6-4, 6-4.
