Gumulya and Ysidora through, Frederika fell
From “20th Mitsubishi-Lancer International Junior Championships 2009” in Manila, the Philippines, two top junior players of Indonesia, Filipina, Beatrice Gumulya (ITF 33) and Grace Sari Ysidora (ITF 78) had to go extramiles in their first outing after getting first round bye. As second seed in this ITF Grade 1 tourney, Gumulya had a set deficit and forced to play tougher but eventually she edged past South Korean Jang Su-Jeong 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 in round 32. In different match of same round, eighth seed Ysidora came out triumphant in the battle between number two of Indonesia and Sweden. Same as her compatrot Gumulya, Ysidora was shocked with her opponent's game pattern which caused her behind in the opening set. But in the next two sets, Ysidora became stonger mentally and more patient than her persistent and strong opponent, Ellen Allgurin. Ysidora then prevailed to win 1-6, 6-3, 7-6(4).
Meanwhile Nadia Frederika of Jakarta lost instantly in the first round (round 48). Frederika who had been trained at ITA in Delray Beach, Florida bowed out to qualifier, Liu Min of China 1-6, 4-6.
