Babos claimed Sarawak title
World ranked number 7 Timea Babos of Hungary played just two games in the final of "13th Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup - ITF World Junior Tennis Championships 2009" in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia today. Her opponent 14th seed Tamara Curovic of Serbia decided to retire when both her and Babos were at one game a piece in the opening set. With this outcome, Babos secured the third title of her junior career and her second ITF Grade 1 title after Copa Gatorade of Venezuela last January. She grabbed her maiden title also here in Sarawak but it was an ITF Grade 3 tourney back in 2007. As for Curovic, it was her first ever final of an ITF Grade 1 tourney. So far, she has collected only two Grade 4 titles and all from tourneys in Finland.
In the semi-final, Babos stopped 16 winning streaks of China's Great Wall, Zheng Sai Sai by defeating Shenzhen tomboy resident 6-4, 6-2. While talented Curovic dispatched fourth seed Maryna Zanevska of Ukraine 6-0, 6-4 in the other last four round.
In doubles' final, top seed Babos and Malou Ejdesgaard of Denmark took the title after they fought hard to beat third seed pair Hannah James/Maryna Zanevska (Great Britain/Ukraine) 3-6, 6-3, 10-6. In the semi-final, duo Babos/Ejdesgaard eased past fourth seed pair Sachie Ishizu/Melis Sezer (Japan/Turkey) 6-1, 6-3, while James/Zanevska cruised past second seed Gumulya/Ysidora from Indonesia 6-3, 6-3.
