Tedjakusuma almost snatched her quarter-final ticket in sea breeze San Diego 50K


Still from "Santa Luz Open" in San Diego, California, Romana Tedjakusuma who had highest rank of her career at WTA 82 in 1994 and now a resident of California, showed her fighting spirit to her much younger opponent, Madison Brengle of USA. In the second round match yesterday at Santa Luz Club, Tedjakusuma took the opening set 6-2. Then talented Brengle stormed back and regained her composure to close it out 6-3 and forced 32 years old Indonesian into third set. Both players eventually reached tie-break and much younger Dover resident played better in critical points to win 7-6(2). In quarter-final Brengle will challenge sixth seeded Georgian Anna Tatishvili. Tatishvili came out strong in the second round match and crushed qualifier Mallory Cecil of USA 6-0, 6-3. In the opening round, Cecil sent US veteran Mashona Washington home earlier after she defeated sister of former ATP player, Malivai Washington, in three sets.
