Big boss' girls reached Manila's quarter-finals

Three players of the "elite" camp owned by powerful boss and "tennis diva" Martina Widjaja did not waste the opportunity to reach quarter-finals. In the second round, fourth seeded Lavinia Tananta, fifth seeded Ayu Fani Damayanti and eight seeded Jessy Rompies kept on their winning track. Looking back at this “Women's Circuit” with total prize money of US $ 10,000 and it is still taking place at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center, in Manila, history was made by Sandy Gumulya and Septi Mende who claimed their maiden title here in November 2003.

In the second round Tananta toppled unranked French player, Elodie Rogge-Dietrich 6-2, 6-4. In the next round, Tananta will face the challenge of qualifier from Chinese Taipei, Juan Ting-Fei. Juan has traveled to Indonesia and she was successful to beat 14 years old Alisa Ogorodova from Uzbekistan 6-1, 7-6(3). Damayanti followed Tananta with victory over Chinese qualifier, Liu Chang 6-2, 6-2. In quarter-final, Damayanti will clash with a familiar player hailed from Penang, Malaysia, Jawairiah Noordin. Noordin shocked the second seeded of China, Lu Jia-Jing and secured 6-4, 6-3 victory. Rompies completed winning day for Indonesians after she defeated experienced Yoo Mi of South Korea 6-4, 6-2. In the last 8 round, Rompies will battle against another South Korean, Kang Seo-Kyung. Another casualty in the second round was top seeded Sacha Jones of New Zealand. Jones bowed out to 18 years old South Korean, Jeong Yoon-Young 3-6, 6-7(5). So, all top three seeds have exited from the tourney. Third seeded Nguyen Thuy-Dung of Vietnam lost earlier in the opening round.

In doubles, top seeded Rompies/Tananta won easily 6-1, 6-3 over qualifier, Marina Novak/Chutharat Rungtein (Liechtenstein/Thailand) in quarter-final. In semi-final Rompies/Tananta will face third seeded pair, Damayanti/Ogorodova. Combination of Indonesia dan Uzbekistan took the hard way in beating South Korean duo, Jeong Yoon-Young/Kang Seo-Kyung 6-3, 5-7, 10-8.
