Ysidora Tobing demonstrates mental toughness to reach quarterfinal

Weak physical condition and upset stomach has yet to subside, but Indonesia's numero uno Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing kept on strving at "Yucatan World Cup 2009", an ITF Grade 1 tournament which is held in Merida, state of Yucatan, Mexico. As fourth seed, Ysidora Tobing overcame difficulty in her movement and cruised past wild card Caroline Garcia of France 7-6(2), 6-0 in round 16 on Wednesday (November 25, 2009). In the opening set, Ysidora Tobing felt stiff all over her body and she could not play her own game which caused her trailing 2-5 and 15-40. From this moment on, it was really a turning point for Ysidora Tobing as she found her own rhythm and she was simply unstoppable all the way to secure a place in the last eight round.

In quarterfinal, Ysidora Tobing will face a tougher challenge from Russian Katerina Popova who has career high at ITF 194 last January. In third round, Popova sprung surprise of the day after she battled past Los Angeles born and sixth seed Noel Scott of USA 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Red hot Thai Tiraganok triumphs, Indonesian girls get empty bag

14 years old tall Thai and seventh seed Gornganok Tiraganok was in solid form all week to claim her Grade 4 maiden title at "ITF Jakarta Junior Open 2009", an ITF Grade 4 tournament which was held at Gelora Bung Karno Tennis Complex in Jakarta, Indonesia today (November 22, 2009). Still a rookie, Tiraganok showed the champion quality along with mental toughness combined with strong patience in executing her groundstrokes on clay and all her works paid-off to surprise a second favorite from China, eighth seed Tian Ran. Tiraganok trailed 1-4 as Tian played well with fast pace from the baseline but then the Thai girl kept on striving to take 6-4 in the opening set. She seemed so cool in applying her strategy as she was quickly leading 4-1 but Tian regrouped to made it closer 3-4 and in the end Tiraganok did not waste her time to serve better to close it out 6-3.

Last October, Tiraganok or as she likes to be called Eye won her ITF Grade 5 maiden title at "Vietnam International Junior Championships Becamex Cup 2009" in Binh Duong, Vietnam.

En route to finals Tiraganok battled past qualifier Kathinka Von Deichmann from Liechtenstein in first round, then she cruised past Laura Fiala of Switzerland and she survived a scare but prevailed to win over Japanese Sanae Ota in quarterfinal. She made the biggest upset by defeating a number one favorite from China, fifth seed Zhu Lin in semi-finals. Zhu was the winner at Surabaya Grade 4 last week.

Amazing run - Bretting won back to back title

Winner of Surabaya Grade 4 last week and eighth seed Dimitri Bretting of Switzerland captured singles title consecutively at "ITF Jakarta Junior Open 2009", an ITF Grade 4 tournament which was held at Gelora Bung Karno Tennis Complex in Jakarta, Indonesia today (November 22, 2009). A resident of Biel, in the land of Roger Federer, 16 years old yet Bretting demonstrated mental toughness combined with solid groundstrokes to beat 17 years old and fourth seed Libor Salaba of Czech Republic 6-3, 6-0. Last year Bretting visited Indonesia for the very first time and he suffered first round defeat at Surabaya Grade 4 then he lost in second round at Solo Grade 4. Looking sharp in almost every strokes, Bretting is now collecting three titles of Grade 4 this year. His first ever title arrived at "14th Slovenian Junior Open 2009" in Domzale, Slovenia last August. So, he is now enjoying 12 winning streak indeed.

En route to finals Bretting won over Chinese qualifier Shen You-Xu in first round, then he double bageled local David Manoah Yosua and followed with crushing local 10th seed Jason Joey Alexander. Bretting's amazing run was perfect as he toppled third seed Bowen Ouyang of China in quarterfinal and shocked Thai top seed Nuttanon Kadchapanan in the last four round.

Gumulya exited in second round, Liu grabbed her maiden title

The only Indonesian player Beatrice Gumulya in the main draw at "Holcim/ITF Women's Circuit 2" which was held at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Manila, Philippines failed to reach quarterfinal on Thursday (November 19, 2009). In her do or die attempt of gaining more ranking points, Gumulya kept on struggling as she bowed out to her doubles partner and seventh seed Han Sung-Hee of South Korea 1-6, 2-6. Playing in her second 10K's final after Gurgaon, India last year, Han eventually bowed out to Chinese fifth seed and lefty Liu Shaozhuo 1-6, 2-6 in today's final of 19 years old girls. So, Han had to be content with this outcome again. Meanwhile Liu appeared in her first ever 10K's final and finally got her 10K's maiden title.

In doubles' final, South Korean duet Han Na-Lae/Yoo Mi eased past Czarina-Mae Arevalo/Katharina Lehnert (Philippines/Germany) 63 60.

Gumulya survives the scare at Manila 10K

The only Indonesian player Beatrice Gumulya in the main draw at "Holcim/ITF Women's Circuit 2" which is held at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Manila, Philippines battled through a thriller in the opening round today (November 17, 2009). On Wednesday (November 11, 2009) the remaining first round matches were staged at "Holcim/ITF Women's Circuit 1" which was held at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Manila, Philippines.
