Basuki/Tedjakusuma failed into quarter-final at San Diego 50K


Bad news came from "Santa Luz Open", a challenger tourney with total prize money of US $ 50,000 in San Diego, California, USA where former top 30 and accomplished doubles player of Argentina, 40 years old Patricia Tarabini is the Tournament Director. Duo veterans, Yayuk Basuki/Romana Tedjakusuma bowed out to third seeded pair Frederica Piedade/Roxane Vaisemberg (Portugal/Brazil) in the opening round yesterday. Basuki/Tedjakusuma fought hard but lost 4-6, 6-7(4). Basuki and Tedjakusuma shared the least prize money of only US $ 285 then.

Portuguese Piedade is currently at WTA 164 for doubles rank, while for singles rank this 26 years old player is at WTA 210 now. Her current doubles rank is her highest ever actually. Piedade's partner, left-handed Vaisemberg is still 19 years old and is currently ranked at WTA 199 for doubles. In singles, Piedade advanced into the second round after defeating former top 50 player in 2006, Romina Oprandi of Italy 6-0, 6-4 in the opening round.

American prodigy and recent US Open Junior title holder, Coco Vandeweghe crashed out immediately in the first round. As qualifier, Vandeweghe demonstrated her persistency against her experienced opponent, Alina Jidkova of Russia, all the way. In the end, Jidkova prevailed with 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 victory.
