It will be interesting to witness the two players next week, as Gumulya is listed in the qualifying round of Taipei 100K and Tananta is listed as second seed in the main draw of Kuching, Sarawak 10K.

Jessy Rompies also continued to improve her ranking as she is now enjoying her career's best at WTA 449. Followed by "veteran" Romana Tedjakusuma who climbed up to WTA 625.

Number one junior player of Indonesia, Grace Sari Ysidora is still focusing on her junior circuit in North America, and with only three pro tournaments so far, she is now ranked at WTA 779.

Last but not least, Beatrice Gumulya has been struggling to earn points despite her latest three 10K tourneys in Thailand and she is now ranked at WTA 923. Together with Tananta, Rompies and Tedjakusuma, younger Gumulya will try to grab ranking points at Kuching, Sarawak 10K next week.

Sie decided to stay in Thailand

In the final week of "Thailand Futures" or "Thailand Mens Future 6" at LTAT Tennis Center, Nonthaburi, Thailand, Indonesian Elbert Sie ended his journey in singles final qualifying but since he had commitment already to play doubles with 24 years old Malaysian Adam Jaya, then he decided to stay. In the opening round, duet Jaya/Sie cruised past local pair Adirek Khundarnpinitvon/Grittaboon Prahmanee 6-3, 6-4. Then in quarterfinal, Jaya/Sie bowed out to the eventual champion, local second seed duet Kirati Siributwong/Peerakit Siributwong 3-6, 4-6.

So, Sie cancelled his plan to go to Palembang, South Sumatra where he was scheduled to take part in "Garuda Indonesia Tennis Series" or "Sportama serie 4" which was called as "Bukit Asam Open", a national tourney with total prize money of 150 million rupiahs.

Indonesian boys still struggled

Indonesian boys were still titleless at "14th Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup World ITF Junior" an ITF Grade 3 tournament in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia which adjourned on Sunday (October 25, 2009). The best outcome was made by eleventh seed Ega Uneputty who ended in round 16 (third round) after he bowed out to Thai sixth seed Nuttanon Kadchapanan 4-6, 3-6. The other two players were defeated by their opponents in second round or round 32. Bandung resident and eighth seed Michael Tjuatjadarma bowed out to Morgan Johansson of Sweden 3-6, 3-6, while Indra Wijaya was beaten by South African fifth seed Renier Moolman 2-6, 6-7(5).

In doubles, Jason Joey Alexander capitalized best result among his compatriots as he finished in semi-final with his Thai partner Natasith Luesantia. In the last four round, duo Alexander/Luesantia lost to second seed pair Renier Moolman/Hernus Pieters from South Africa 4-6, 2-6.

Ravita fell in quarterfinal

Nadia Ravita, a Jakarta resident, crashed out in quarterfinal at "El Paso Youth Tennis Center ITF Tournament 2009" an ITF Grade 5 tourney which is held at El Paso Youth Tennis Center in El Paso, Texas, USA. In the last eight round on Thursday (October 22, 2009), seventh seed Ravita was crushed by local wild card and the eventual winner Hayley Carter 2-6, 0-6. Despite such scoreline, Ravita did her utmost to level her opponent's game who demonstrated continuous heavy top spins. In round 16 or third round, Ravita survived a thriller and defeated Swedish fourteenth seed Beatrice Cedermark 6-7(5), 6-1, 7-6(6).

It was an amazing run by three local wild cards as they cruised into semi-finals. But the best fairytale was indeed claimed by Hayley Carter who grabbed her maiden title in ITF junior circuit only in her second tourney after Lexington, South Carolina Grade 2 last year. 14 years old Carter eased past Liang 6-2, 6-0 in the final and by October 26, 2009 she will be on the board with her first ever ITF junior ranking. Last August, a resident of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Carter won the USTA Girls 14 Nationals in Peachtree City, Georgia.

Kiwi's rising star: Sacha Jones

Young Auckland resident Sacha Jones has won her third ITF Pro Circuit Tournament in less than a month in Australia. On Sunday (18 October, 2009), she defeated Alicia Molik of Australia in three sets 3-6 6-1 7-5, at the final of the $25,000 tournament in Port Pirie, South Australia.

Jones was fifth seed, while Molik, who is in her comeback stage to top tennis, was a special exempt entry to the tournament. Last week, Jones also came back from a set deficit to beat Molik, to win the tournament in Mount Gambier 25K. And now Jones is 3-1 against Molik in their head to head.

Jones' 25K maiden title came in Darwin on September 27, 2009 and as at today, October 19, 2009 her world ranking is at WTA 242 and it is indeed her career high. 18 years old Jones has certainly proved that she could raise her bar higher when she finished as semi-finalist at Grapevine, Texas 50K last July. So, Kiwi fans are really looking forward to witnessing her career advancement.

Sie crashes out in final qualifying

In the final week of "Thailand Futures" or "Thailand Mens Future 6" at LTAT Tennis Center, Nonthaburi, Thailand, Indonesian Elbert Sie failed to make it into the main draw. In the first round of qualifying, third seed Sie managed to get out of trouble to beat local player Phaninthon Pakpoomkamol 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

In the final qualifying, Sie bowed out to Jan Satral of Czech Republic 3-6, 3-6. So, out of three tourneys Sie had played in the land of Udomchoke, he gained only 1 ranking point by being second round finisher in the 2nd leg.

It is likely that Sie will be heading to Palembang, South Sumatra where he will take part in "Garuda Indonesia Tennis Series" or "Sportama serie 4" which is called as "Bukit Asam Open", a national tourney with total prize money of 150 million rupiahs.

Lebedeva grabs her maiden title, while Sutjiadi/Syarifah claim first ever Grade 4 doubles title

Russian third seed Margarita Lebedeva claimed her Grade 4 maiden title at "Malaysia ITF World Junior Tennis Championships" which is held at Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh Tennis Courts in Perak, Ipoh, Malaysia on Sunday (October 18, 2009). Appearing only in her second final of Grade 4, 15 years old Lebedeva refused to let experienced top seed Katherine Westbury from New Zealand to add her Grade 4 title. As result, Lebedeva tasted her victory after she ousted Westbury 7-6(5), 1-6, 6-3.

In doubles' final, a surprise was made by fourth seed Indonesian pair Aldila Sutjiadi/Nadya Syarifah as they fought hard to beat third seed duet Bella Destriana/Nattawadee Kotcha (Indonesia/Thailand) 6-1, 4-6, 10-8. Reaching their second final after Malacca Grade 4 last March, duo Sutjiadi/Syarifah finally obtained doubles title together as a pair. It was indeed Grade 4 maiden doubles title for both Sutjiadi and Syarifah. But for Syarifah, she has two doubles title now after Vietnam Grade 5 last week. Meanwhile Destriana has collected 10 doubles title in Grade 4 and 1 doubles title in Grade 5, as for Kotcha, she tasted her first ever doubles runner-up here.

In boys singles, the winner was South African second seed Hernus Pieters who claimed his second Grade 4 title after Windhoek, Namibia last August. 16 years old Pieters earned it in a hard way to defeat unseeded Nima Madani from Sweden 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. As for Madani, today's final was his second time as runner-up after Kramfors, Sweden Grade 5 in August 2009.

Thai second seed duet claimed boys doubles title. Duo Phassawit Burapharitta/Chanon Varapongsittikul battled past top seed pair Hernus Pieters/Ahmed Triki (South Africa/Turkey) 6-2, 6-7(3), 10-8.

Lebedeva denies Destriana's maiden final of Grade 4

The sole hope of Indonesia, second seed Bella Destriana stumbled again to reach her first ever final of her junior career at "Malaysia ITF World Junior Tennis Championships" an ITF Grade 4 tournament which is held at Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh Tennis Courts in Perak, Ipoh, Malaysia on Saturday (October 17, 2009). Playing only in her second semi-final of Grade 4, 17 years old Destriana bowed out to Russian third seed and 15 years old Margarita Lebedeva 6-7(2), 4-6 . With this result, Lebedeva will play her second final of her career in Grade 4 tourney after "Prokom Cup" in Poznan, Poland when she was runner-up.

Meanwhile 16 years old top seed Katherine Westbury from New Zealand secured her ticket into final as she cruised past Thai fourth seed Tanaporn Thongsing 6-1, 6-4 in the other semi-final. Back to back deja vu for Gumulya

Sandy Gumulya of Indonesia bundled out in second round at "Nyrstar Tennis International" in Port Pirie, South Australia today (October 15, 2009). It was local wild card Bojana Bobuscic who ousted Gumulya 6-1, 6-3 and forced her to pack-up her belongings. So, same as last week in Mount Gambier 25K, former numero uno of Indonesia Gumulya stumbled in round 16. In two weeks, Gumulya bagged total of US $ 1,127 from singles and doubles. It was certainly not enough to compensate all of her expenses.

Top seed Yurika Sema from Japan continued her run as she eased past local wld card Alsion Shemon 6-0, 6-3 in second round. Also still cruising into quarterfinal was Aussie second seed Olivia Rogowska who breezed past compatriot Alenka Hubacek 6-2, 6-1.

Another shock today was claimed by local player Monika Wejnert as she fought back from a set down to defeat seventh seed Chiaki Okadaue from Japan 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. In the meantime Aussie Alicia Molik also advanced into the last eight round after she booted out local qualifier Julia Moriarty 6-1, 6-1.

Two more seeds such as Aussie fourth seed Shannon Golds and Kiwi fifth seed Sacha Jones also secured their quarterfinal berth. Golds edged past compatriot Isabella Holland 6-4, 6-2, followed by Jones who cruised past Briton qualifier Danielle Brown 6-3, 6-2.

Destriana, Sutjiadi & Syarifah earn quarterfinal berth

Three Indonesian girls, second seed Bella Destriana, seventh seed Nadya Syarifah and eighth seed Aldila Sutjiadi advanced into quarterfinals at "Malaysia ITF World Junior Tennis Championships" an ITF Grade 4 tournament which is held at Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh Tennis Courts in Perak, Ipoh, Malaysia today (October 15, 2009). 17 years old Destriana after getting first round bye, she eased past Thai Rongrong Leenabanchong 6-3, 6-0 in second round, followed by her 15 years old club mate Syarifah who crushed Finnish Pernilla Wohlstrom 6-0, 6-1. Meanwhile 14 years old Sutjiadi edged past another Thai, Sataporn Chainarong 6-4, 6-0.

After away from playing U-18 ITF junior circuit for few months due to her 6 weeks of being a member in U-14 ITF Team for European tour till this past summer, Jakarta prodigy Sutjiadi made into quarterfinal same as last year here in Perak Grade 4. In the first set, Sutjiadi was quickly leading 4-1 but then her Thai opponent Leenabanchong kept on fighting till she made it closer 4-3. Sutjiadi had the chance to close the set as she was up 5-3, but Leenabanchong did not give up and made it even closer 5-4. In the end Sutjiadi sharpened her control and took the opening set 6-4. In second set, Sutjiadi was simply dominating the battle and she won easily 6-0.

Two other Indonesian girls had to end their outing in today's round 16. Also recent U-14 ITF Team member to Europe, 14 years old skinny Voni Darlina bowed out to sixth seed Nattawadee Kotcha of Thailand 2-6, 6-4, 0-6, while Vanessa Gunawan was beaten by Thai fourth seed Tanaporn Thongsing 0-6, 3-6.

Second seed Yonemura denies Doi's maiden title

Fourth seed Misaki Doi failed again in the final at "Tokyu Harvest Cup Hamanako ITF Womens Circuit" in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka-ken, Japan on Sunday, October 4, 2009. It was Doi's back to back failure to capture her 25K's maiden title and this time despite her strong fight, in the end she had to barely lose 4-6, 6-7(3) to second seed Tomoko Yonemura. And it was certainly a sweet revenge for older Yonemura after she lost to younger Doi 4-6, 6-7(5) in quarterfinal at Makinohara a week before.

As for 27 years old Yonemura, on Sunday's final it was her fourth 25K's final appearance after Nagano and Miyazaki both in 2006, then Gunma in 2008. Out of these four finals, she claimed three titles in Nagano, Miyazaki and this time at Hamanako. As the winner, Yonemura collected US $ 2,940.00, while Doi as runner-up bagged US $ 1,666.00

Fourth seed Doi toppled top seed Nara

First seed Kurumi Nara stumbled in semi-final at "Tokyu Harvest Cup Hamanako ITF Womens Circuit" in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka-ken, Japan on Saturday, October 3, 2009. As the locomotive of her three compatriots in the last four round, Nara failed to keep-up her consistency and she was ousted by her 18 years old compatriot and left-handed fourth seed Misaki Doi 2-6, 2-6 as both players for the first time battled each other in pro circuit. It was really an amazing run by Doi who made it into 25K's final back to back. Last week at Makinohara, she bowed out to experienced Shieh Su-Wei of Chinese Taipei in final.

The two players, Nara and Doi are the next in line after Ayumi Morita, as they used to be Japan's top junior players. Nara's highest junior rank was at ITF 5, while Doi's best junior rank was at ITF 44. At "Pangdam Siliwangi Cup 2006", an ITF Grade 4 tourney in Bandung, Indonesia, Doi was ousted by local "rookie" Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing 6-2, 3-6, 3-6 in semi-final. At that time, it was only Ysidora Tobing's second ITF tourney she had participated in. These two players, Nara and Doi tied at 1-1 in their head to head in junior circuit. In the first meeting, Doi defeated Nara in 2007, then Nara got her revenge in 2008 and both matches at Japan Open Junior Championships (ITF Grade 1) in Nagoya. Nara and Doi partnered in doubles for several times and they were finalists at Junior Wimbledon 2007.

Also advancing into final was local second seed Tomoko Yonemura who had to work hard again same as in the quarterfinal. In the last four round, Yonemura was down a set but then she bounced back to beat her compatriot Natsumi Hamamura 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles' final, top seed duet Carly Gullickson/Nicole Kriz (USA/Australia) rallied from a set deficit to defeat second seed pair Yayuk Basuki/Hwang I-Hsuan (Indonesia/Chinese Taipei) 4-6, 7-6(2), 10-5. So, Gullickson and Kriz shared the prize money of US $ 1,176.00 while Basuki/Hwang as a pair bagged US $ 686.00

Also advancing into the last four round, local second seed Tomoko Yonemura who had to work hard in earning her semi-final spot as she was forced to lose the opening set and then she bounced back to defeat compatriot Ai Yamamoto 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Meanwhile local fourth seed Misaki Doi secured all Japanese semi-finals after she booted out Hsu Wen-Hsin of Chinese Taipei 6-0, 6-1. And last but not least local unseeded player Natsumi Hamamura also moved into the last four round despite another thriller.
