Tananta survives three sets in Solo 10K's final


Fifth seeded Lavinia Tananta claimed a sweet victory and secured only her third title of her career at "Solo Women's Open" which took place at Gelora Manahan Tennis Courts in Solo, Central Java. Semarang resident Tananta overcame second seed Varatchaya Wongteanchai of Thailand 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 in today's final. Tananta is now leading 2-0 in her meeting against Thai Wongteanchai. Her maiden title of 10K was almost three years ago in Jakarta, while her second 10K's title came in Manila last November. Will be 22 years old on November 3, 2009, Tananta as the winner pocketed $ 1,568 and earned twelve circuit points, while Wongteanchai who lost to Tananta back in Pattaya last June, as the runner-up bagged $ 980 and eight circuit points. As for Wongteanchai, today was her second 10K's final of her career after Bangkok last June when she had to be content as runner-up to Japanese Ai Yamamoto.

In semi-finals on Saturday (August 8, 2009) Tananta sealed her revenge after she disposed unseeded Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing 6-3, 6-1. Despite such score line, the match between Tananta and Ysidora Tobing was actually involved many deuces. But overall Tananta played better than her younger opponent as Ysidora Tobing admitted that she committed many unforced errors throughout the battle particularly in second set. Meanwhie Wongteanchai denied the fine run of wild card Lutfiana Aris Budiharto and edged past the student of Wichita State University in Kansas 7-5, 6-2.

In doubles' final on Saturday, second seed pair Beatrice Gumulya/Jessy Rompies grabbed their second title as pair in 10K as they breezed past third seed duo Kanyapat Narattana/Nungnadda Wannasuk from Thailand 6-2, 6-1. The first title for Gumulya/Rompies was at Tarakan last June.
