The singles final of Jakarta Women's Circuit today (August 1, 2009) did not start on time since the tourney organizer was still busy putting-up a welcoming banner near the court. It was such a shame to witness such unorganized work as the banner should have been up from the very first day. It was supposed to be an international tourney but the overall organization was indeed lack of professionalism. Shame on Pelti or Indonesia Tennis Association!
Top seed Ayu Fani Damayanti as the final hope of Big Mama's camp had a slight scare despite her eventual victory over unseeded and a rookie finalist Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing. In the end Damayanti edged past Ysidora Tobing 6-4, 6-4. What a sigh relief for Martina Widjaja - big boss of the elite camp or "stepmother" of Indonesian tennis as she watched almost the entire match.
Ysidora Tobing began the opening set with holding her serve 1-0. She demonstrated her typical attacking game with explosive depth and flat groundstrokes and she managed to have comfortable 3-1 lead. Then Ysidora Tobing started to be inconsistent in maintaining her attacking game and so Damayanti was able to lead 4-3 then 5-3. The supporters of Ysidora Tobing smelled a hope after their fave player could closer the gap 4-5. Eventually Damayanti was slightly better in executing her game plan and closed it out 6-4.
In second set, Damayanti was quickly up 2-0 but her younger opponent leveled it up 2-2. Damayanti fought back to lead 3-2 then it went on 3-3, 3-4, 4-4, 5-4 and finally 6-4 after Ysidora Tobing's backhand went out.
Along the match it was obvious that Damayanti did not like her opponent's flat and explosive depth groundstrokes. So the Balinese girl tried as much as possible to avoid hitting her backhand and instead she hit forehand. Nevertheless, Damayanti's backhand was mediocre.
