Tananta storms into semi-final

Sixth seed Lavinia Tananta extended her good form by reaching her 4th semi-final of 10K tourney in the last month as she fought back to defeat fourth seed Yang Zi-Jun from Hong Kong 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 in today's quarterfinal of "BEC Tero Womens Circuit 6" at Nonthaburi, Thailand. With this victory, Tananta leads 3-0 in her head to head with Yang after Jakarta 10K in 2006 and Nonthaburi 10K last year.

In the last four round, Tananta will clash with South Korean Yoo Mi who crushed qualifier Beatrice Gumulya with no mercy 6-0, 6-0. Indeed, Yoo continued her saga in slaughtering the Gumulyas back to back. It was a good revenge by Yoo since she was lost to Gumulya 2-6, 6-7(5) in qualifying round at Pattaya 10K last June.

Coming into her match against Yoo tomorrow, Tananta has secured two victories over her opponent. Tananta have won in Manila 10K last November and most recently last week in quarterfinal of Nonthaburi 10K.

Meanwhile in the quarterfinal battle of Thais, third seed Varatchaya Wongteanchai claimed her revenge over local wild card Sophia Mulsap. After a set down, Wongteanchai fought back to beat Mulsap 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. In their first meeting at Nonthaburi 10K last year, Mulsap was triumphant and won 6-3, 6-4.

Then Russian Angelina Gabueva continued her journey by defeating eighth seed Albina Khabibulina of Uzbekistan 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.

In doubles' semi-finals, second seed pair Tananta/Wongteanchai outclassed Gumulya sisters 6-1, 6-1 to book their final ticket. Unseeded duo Albina Khabibulina/Kanyapat Narattana (Uzbekistan/Thailand) surprised top seed duet Jessy Rompies/Romana Tedjakusuma from Indonesia 6-3, 6-4.
