Eleventh seed Heather Watson of Great Britain came out triumphant and earned her first ever Junior Grand Slam singles title at "US Open Junior Tennis Championships" today (September 13, 2009). In final, 17 years Watson cruised past Russian Yana Buchina 6-4, 6-1 in 1 hour and 55 minutes. Watson recorded 4 aces and 3 double faults, while her opponent Buchina had only 1 ace and made 6 double faults.
Her biggest achievement of her junior career came as no surprise as Watson finished as runner-up at "Eddie Herr International Junior Championships 2008" and was quarterfinalist at "Australian Open Junior Championships 2009". En route to final, Watson shocked second seed Noppawan Lertcheewakarn of Thailand 6-2, 6-1 in quarterfinal and it was truly a sweet revenge since she barely lost to the Thai prodigy 4-6, 4-6 in round 32 of US Open 2008. Then in semi-final Watson outclassed ninth seed Daria Gavrilova of Russia 6-3, 6-0. Since Watson was 12 years old, she has been trained at the prestigious Nick Bollettieri Academy.
As for 17 years old Buchina, she ousted 16th seed Beatrice Capra from USA 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 in the last eight round and then she battled past another Great Britain's hope, Laura Robson 1-6, 6-3, 7-5.
In doubles final, unseeded pair Valeria Solovieva/Maryna Zanevska (Russia/Ukraine) fought back to defeat third seed duet Elena Bogdan/Noppawan Lertcheewakarn (Romania/Thailand) 1-6, 6-3, 10-7.
