Eleventh seed Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing of Indonesia crashed out in quarterfinal at "Kentucky International Junior Derby", an ITF Grade 1 tourney which is held at University of Kentucky Sports Center in Lexington, Kentucky, USA. In the first set, Ysidora Tobing fought hard to keep-up with her opponent, but she eventually lost to third seed Yulia Putintseva of Russia 6-7(4), 2-6 yesterday (September 17, 2009). It was her fourth quarterfinal appearance in Grade 1 tourney after Nonthaburi, Kuching and Manila this year and only in Nonthaburi she made into semi-final.
Meanwhile China's number one Zhang Sai Sai was in the limelight as she ousted top seed Ajla Tomljanovic from Croatia 7-5, 7-5 and secured her clash with Russian Putintseva in the last four round. As for Zhang, with this outcome, it was her second semi-final appearance after Kuching last March when she lost to Hungarian Timea Babos.
The other two semi-finalists will be Russian fourth seed Irina Khromacheva and ninth seed Cristina Dinu of Romania. In the last eight round Khromacheva faced fierce challenge by American Sachia Vickery but she prevailed to win 7-5, 7-6(1). Then Dinu also edged past American wld card Monica Turewicz 7-5, 6-4.
In doubles' quarterfinal, fifth seed duet Ysidora Tobing and Zheng Saisai ended their outing despite taking first set 6-3. Top seed pair Brooke Bolender and Ajla Tomljanovic (USA/Croatia) fought back to win 6-4, 10-7.
