Damayanti & Tananta crash out in second round in the land of Crocodile Dundee

Two Indonesians fifth seed Ayu Fani Damayanti and Lavinia Tananta both fell in second round at "Northern Territory Women's Tennis International 2" in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia today (September 24, 2009). Damayanti bowed out to local qualifier Bojana Bobuscic 3-6, 1-6, while Tananta was defeated by 29 years old Remi Tezuka of Japan 0-6, 6-7(4).

In the meantime, Alicia Molik maintained her good form in her come back as she toppled compatriot and second seed Marija Mirkovic 6-3, 6-2.

The highest seeded player is now third seed Emily Webley-Smith from Great Britain who advanced into quarterfinal as she cruised past local lucky loser Tammi Patterson 6-3, 6-1. Followed by fourth seed Chiaki Okadaue of Japan who edged past Aussie Alenka Hubacek 7-5, 6-2.

Also moving into the last eighth round was sixth seed Sacha Jones from New Zealand as she had to go through fierce battle but eventually prevailed to win 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 over Aussie Monika Wejnert. Then seventh seed Aussie Sally Peers also continued her run after she dispatched local qualifier Daniela Scivetti 6-1, 6-4. Another seeded player who moved into quarterfinal was eighth seed Aussie Isabella Holland. She bounced back to beat local qualifier Alison Bai 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles' semi-finals, third seed Ayu Fani Damayanti/Lavinia Tananta had to end their journey after they bowed out to duet Alenka Hubacek/Jessy Rompies (Australia/Indonesia) 6-7(5), 4-6. In final, Hubacek/Rompies will clash with local pair Isabella Holland/Sally Peers who ousted Alison Bai/Chinami Ogi (Australia/Japan) 6-3, 6-3 in another semi-final's match.
