“ITF Nong Hyup International Women’s Circuit 2009” with total prize money of US $ 25,000 just started in Goyang, South Korea on Tuesday (May 26, 2009). In its opening day, only five singles’ matches were held and fourth seed Chiaki Okadaue of Japan crashed out immediately in the first round. Japanese Okadaue gave everything to fight against local player, Chang Kyung-Mi, but in the end 27 years old Chang prevailed as the winner with interesting score line, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Meanwhile top seed Lu Jing-Jing from China began her campaign with 6-3, 6-4 victory over Zhang Ling of Hong Kong. Followed by second seed Ryoko Fuda of Japan who battled past her compatriot Ayaka Maekawa 7-5, 6-4. Then fifth seed and South Korea’s number one Lee Jin-A cruised past her compatriot, wild card Yu Min-Hwa 6-4, 6-0 and secured her ticket to round 16. Also cruising into the next round, local wild card Kim Hae-Sung who disposed Slovenian Tadeja Majeric 6-4 retired.
In doubles’ first round matches, local wild card pair Cho Eun-Hye/Kim So-Jung surprised fourth seed duo Han Xinyun/Ji Chunmei from China and came back from behind with 4-6, 6-2, 11-9 victory. Top seed pair Lu Jing-Jing/Sun Shengnan of China capitalized their opening win over duo Lena Litvak/Pemra Ozgen (USA/Turkey) 6-1, 6-4. This time unseeded, duo Indonesian veterans Yayuk Basuki/Romana Tedjakusuma eased past duet of Lizaan Du Plessis/Shannon Golds (South Africa/Australia) 6-2, 6-2.
