Damayanti passes tough challenge

Unseeded Ayu Fani Damayanti continued her winning streak after she managed to win three setter over qualifier and sixth seed Tadeja Majeric of Slovenia in the semi-final of "Bankaltim International Open 2009" in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan today (May 2, 2009). Still having notorious serve problem, Balinese Damayanti showed better depth than her opponent along with better persistency. In the second set, Damayanti kept on leading in tie break until 5-3 but she lost focus abruptly which made Majeric to force it into rubber set. In the final set, Majeric had problem with her leg and Damayanti, the latest player recruited into Big Mama's camp took advantage of such situation. So, the final score was 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-1 for Damayanti.

Bad luck was suffered by Thai qualifier Nungnadda Wannasuk as she was trailed 1-4 from Japanese Erika Sema, then abruptly she was forced to retire with knee problem. Therefore, Sema will have final battle of unseeded players against Damayanti. It will be Sema's first ever 25K 's final in her pro career.

In doubles' final, top seed pair Yayuk Basuki/Romana Tedjakusuma ousted third seed duet Emily Webley-Smith/Zhang Ling (Great Britain/Hong Kong) 6-3, 6-3. It was the veterans' first title of the season.
