Damayanti makes it perfect for local clean sweep
After veteran duo Yayuk Basuki/Romana Tedjakusuma grabbed doubles' title on Saturday (May 2, 2009), Damayanti tasted her maiden title in 25K tourney at "Bankaltim International Open 2009" as the Balinese player edged past 5 days older Japanese Erika Sema in the final yesterday (May 3, 2009). Both players were born in 1988, Sema's birthday was on November 24, while Damayanti's was on November 29. In her 25K second final appearance, talented Damayanti was quickly ahead 4-1 in the opening set. But Sema was reluctant to give-up and was able to make it 5-5. Eventually Damayanti closed it out 7-5. Damayanti's triumph was indeed lucky in such a weak field of 25K.
In the second set, despite her weak serve and lack of power, Damayanti managed to cruise on to lead 4-0. Then she was still up 4-1, and suddenly Damayanti suffered physical problem. She looked tensed as she got worn out physically and she felt stiff around her toes, ankle along with cramp on her thigh.
Luckily, her opponent Sema became exhausted, too. Damayanti tried hard to hang in there and finaly she claimed 6-3 victory in earning her first ever title of 25K level. As winner, Damayanti added US $ 2,940 into her bank account, while Sema as runner received US $ 1,666. All in all, Damayanti has collected two titles in this season after Hamilton 10K, New Zealand last March.
