Eight seed Lukas Lacko of Slovakia will challenge fifth seed Samuel Groth from Australia in the final of “Fergana Challenger” with total prize money of US $ 35,000 in Fergana, Uzbekistan after they battled past their opponents in semi-finals on Friday (May 22, 2009). Lacko extended his good form as he surprised fourth seed Illya Marchenko of Ukraine and won 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. Meanwhile Aussie Groth had relatively easier outing after he cruised past Russian qualifier Evgeny Kirillov 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles semi-finals, fourth seed pair Pavel Chekhov/Alexey Kedryuk (Russia/Kazakhstan) edged past unseeded duo Raven Klaasen/Danai Udomchoke (South Africa/Thailand) 6-3, 6-2, while second seed duet Pierre-Ludovic Duclos/Aisam Ul-Haq Qureshi (Canada/Pakistan) defeated third seed Russian pair Evgeny Kirillov/Alexandre Kudryavtsev 6-4, 6-3. In the final, fourth seed duo Chekhov/Kedryuk came from behind to grab the title as they edged past second seed pair Duclos/Qureshi 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.
