Local domination in semi-finals of Hamanako 25K


First seed Kurumi Nara stormed into semi-finals at "Tokyu Harvest Cup Hamanako ITF Womens Circuit" in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka-ken, Japan on Friday, October 2, 2009. She was truly the locomotive of her three compatriots who also cruised into the last four round. In quarterfinal, 17 years old Nara had an easy outing as she breezed past compatriot and 25 years old qualifier Sakiko Shimizu 6-1, 6-2.

Also advancing into the last four round, local second seed Tomoko Yonemura who had to work hard in earning her semi-final spot as she was forced to lose the opening set and then she bounced back to defeat compatriot Ai Yamamoto 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Meanwhile local fourth seed Misaki Doi secured all Japanese semi-finals after she booted out Hsu Wen-Hsin of Chinese Taipei 6-0, 6-1. And last but not least local unseeded player Natsumi Hamamura also moved into the last four round despite another thriller. Hamamura had to play tough battle but she prevailed to beat local qualifier Sachie Ishizu 7-5, 3-6, 6-0.

In doubles' semi-finals, top seed duet Carly Gullickson/Nicole Kriz (USA/Australia) cruised past local duet Maki Arai/Akari Inoue 6-2, 7-6(4). In final, Gullickson/Kriz will clash with second seed pair Yayuk Basuki/Hwang I-Hsuan (Indonesia/Chinese Taipei) who improved their partnership's performance by reaching the last stage of competition this week. Duo Basuki/Hwang edged past local pair Shiho Hisamatsu/Ayaka Maekawa 6-3, 7-6(3).
