Indonesia's current number two Sandy Gumulya (ranked at WTA 394) is playing her first 25K tourney this season at "2009 City of Mount Gambier Blue Lake Women's Classic" in Mt. Gambier, South Australia and she won an opener today (October 6, 2009). In the first round Gumulya cruised past 17 years old qualifier Chelsea Te Tai from New Zealand 6-3, 6-2.
In the opening day today, only total of 5 singles' matches were staged. Former world number 8 and wild card Alicia Molik made a good start only in her third tourney after she came back to the circuit. In the opening round, Molik dispatched local qualifier Hayley Ericksen 6-0, 6-4. Also cruising into round 16 was American Jennifer Elie who ousted local qualifier Julia Moriarty 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles' first round, duo Gumulya/Moriarty bowed out to top seed pair Olivia Rogowska/Emily Webley-Smith (Australia/Great Britain) 6-3, 3-6, 7-10.
