Sie stumbles in round 16

Indonesian qualifier Elbert Sie ended his journey in second round at "Thailand Futures F5" in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand on Wednesday (October 14, 2009). The Bandung resident Sie bowed out to New Zealander Mikal Statham 2-6, 1-6 and failed to advance into the last eight round.

A shock was made by Harri Heliovaara of Findland who defeated fourth seed American Nathan Thompson 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. While two local players left in round 16, they both eventually crashed out. First, Peerakit Siributwong was beaten by Hungarian eighth seed Kornel Bardoczky 4-6, 0-1 retired. Second, Weerapat Doakmaiklee was ousted by qualifier William Ward from New Zealand 4-6, 1-6.
