Widjaja sees-off top seed Tananta



Wild card and fifith seed Angelique Widjaja cruised into semifinals of "OkeShop Open" after she ousted top seed Lavinia Tananta in quarterfinals yesterday(April 24, 2009). An initiator of this "Garuda Indonesia Tennis Series", Widjaja trailed 0-2 in the early opening set, then she broke Tananta's serve in fourth and sixth games to lead 4-2. Last year winner of "Garuda Indonesia Tennis Masters" Tananta managed to earn one game before Widjaja closed it out 6-3.

In the second set, former numero uno in Indonesia, Widjaja kept on rolling and had an early lead 2-0. Then she was able to break Tananta's serve again to have 4-1 lead. Eventually Widjaja sealed 6-2 victory in the second set. In semi-finals, Widjaja will face fourth seed Mia Sacca who booted out sixth seed Laili Rahmawati Ulfa 6-2, 6-2.

Meanwhile third seed Beatrice Gumulya had a relatively comfortable win over seventh seed Cynthia Melita 6-2, 6-3. Gumulya will clash with second seed Jessy Rompies in the last four round. In the last eight round, Rompies was simply in control over her opponent, qualifier Vita Taher. Hard hitter Rompies crushed Taher 6-1, 6-0.

In men's singles, top seed Elbert Sie breezed past seventh seed Andery Setyawanto 6-0,6-0 and booked his place in semi-finals against fourth seed Prima Simpatiji. Simpatiaji defeated sixth seed Sebastian Dacosta 6-4, 6-4. Meanwhile second seed Sunu Wahyu Trijati also advanced into the last four round after he outclassed 12th seed Hendri Susilo Pramono 6-2, 6-2.
