Ysidora Tobing surfs into semi-final

Playing in her 6th Grade 2 tourney of junior circuit, top seed Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing advanced into semi-final after she cruised past lefty American 7th seed Monica Turewicz at "South Carolina ITF 2009", an ITF Grade 2 tourney in Lexington, South Carolina, USA on Friday (November 6, 2009). Ysidora Tobing played very well in anticipating tricky shots from Turewicz and posted 6-3, 6-2 victory to reach her first ever Grade 2 semi-final.

In the last four round, Ysidora Tobing will face a tough battle against talented American fifth seed Madison Keys. Meanwhile Rio Kitagawa/Nadia Ravita (Japan/Indonesia) had to end their journey after they bowed out to local pair Maria Belaya/Kate Fuller 5-7, 6-4, 9-11 in quarterfinal.

Ysidora Tobing storms into quarterfinal, Kitagawa/Ravita also through into the last eight round

Top seed Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing cruised into quarterfinal as she eased past American 15th seed Lauren Herring at "South Carolina ITF 2009", an ITF Grade 2 tourney in Lexington, South Carolina, USA on Thursday (November 5, 2009). In the first set Ysidora Tobing was behind 0-2 but then she found her own form to close it out 6-3. In the second set, Ysidora Tobing was simply too strong for Herring and the Indonesian girl won easily 6-0. In the last eight round, Ysidora Tobing will face a tricky opponent, 16 years old American seventh seed Monica Turewicz who is left-handed player.

In doubles, Ysidora Tobing is partnering with American Annie Mulholland for the first time. As second seed duo, Mulholland/Ysidora Tobing had to bow out to American pair, Robin Anderson/Kelsey Laurente 6-4, 4-6, 4-10 in round 16.

Meanwhile Rio Kitagawa/Nadia Ravita (Japan/Indonesia) shocked local seventh seed duet Hai-Li Kong/Denise Starr 6-0, 7-5 in round 16. In quarterfinal, Kitagawa/Ravita will clash with local pair Maria Belaya/Kate Fuller.

Tananta, Rompies, Tedjakusuma into quarterfinals

After getting bye in the opening round, top seed Lavinia Tananta, second seed Jessy Rompies and fourth seed "veteran" Romana Tedjakusuma cruised into quarterfinals at the newest tourney with total prize money of US $ 10,000 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia today (November 5, 2009). Top seed Tananta posted an easy victory over South Korean qualifier Kim Jung-Eun 6-1, 6-1, followed by second seed Jessy Rompies who came back from a set down to beat Belgian Gally De Wael 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-4 and also fourth seed "veteran" Romana Tedjakusuma booked her spot in the last eight round after she edged past Malaysian Jawairiah Noordin 6-3, 7-5.

The only shock of today was the exit of eighth seed Shivika Burman from India as she was defeated by South Korean Han Sung-Hee with interesting scoreline 2-6, 6-2, 2-6.

In doubles' quarterfinals, top seed pair Tananta/Tedjakusuma breezed past duet Gally De Wael/Asmitha Easwaramurthi (Belgium/India) 6-3, 6-0 while second seed duo Beatrice Gumulya/Jessy Rompies eased past South Korean pair Kim Jung-Eun/You Ju-Hee 6-1, 6-2.

Ysidora Tobing wins, Ravita loses

Top seed Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing and unseeded Nadia Ravita had different results in second round or round 32 at "South Carolina ITF 2009", an ITF Grade 2 tourney in freezing Lexington, South Carolina, USA on Wednesday (November 3, 2009). Being held at Lexington County Tennis Complex, Ysidora Tobing faced tough challenge from 16 years old Mexican lucky loser Giuliana Olmos in the opening set as recent member of Mexican Junior Fed Cup team forced her opponent into tie break. Ysidora trailed 2-5 first during tie break but she refused to give up and closed it out 7-6 (8-6). In the second set, the Indonesian prodigy became more solid in dictating the duel and won 6-3. Only ranked at ITF 824 this week, Olmos is only playing her second tourney of her junior career after Tampico Junior Cup in Tampico, Mexico last August when she entered as wild card and became the champion.

Meanwhile the younger Indonesian, Ravita was outclassed by second seed Katarena Paliivets of Canada 2-6, 3-6. In doubles, Ravita is partnered with Japanese Rio Kitagawa and in the first round, duo Ravita/Kitagawa battled past fierce fight over Giuliana Olmos/Caroline Price (Mexico/USA) 7-5, 6-4.

Gumulya keps struggling at the newest Kuching 10K

Beatrice Gumulya tasted another defeat in the opening round at the newest tourney with total prize money of US $ 10,000 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia on Wednesday (November 3, 2009). Younger sister of Sandy Gumulya, Bea as she likes to be called, was crushed by South Korean seventh seed Kang Seo-Kyung 1-6, 1-6. Till now, Gumulya has been playing total of 13 tournaments since late April 2009 including a couple of 25Ks in East Kalimantan with best results as quarterfinalist twice and both in Nonthaburi 10K last August. So as of today, Gumulya is 8-12 (including qualifying rounds) and since she exited immediately, she earned only US $ 98.

Meanwhile, top seed Lavinia Tananta, second seed Jessy Rompies and fourth seed "veteran" Romana Tedjakusuma received bye as two seeded players crashed out instantly in first round. Fifth seed Elodie Rogge-Dietrich from France could not survive a thriller and she lost to Vietnamese Trang Huynh Phuong Dai 1-6, 6-3, 4-6. Also becoming casualty was sixth seed Kumari-Sweta Solanki of India who was booted out by South Korean qualifier Han Na-Lae 2-6, 1-6.

Ysidora Tobing and Ravita win opener at South Carolina Grade 2

Top seed Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing and unseeded Nadia Ravita moved into second round or round 32 at "South Carolina ITF 2009", an ITF Grade 2 tourney in freezing Lexington, South Carolina, USA. The two Jakarta residents are currently trained at International Tennis Academy in Delray Beach, Florida, USA. In the opening round (draw 64) Ysidora Tobing resumed her tour after playing World Group's Junior Fed Cup in Mexico till October 4, 2009 and she secured her fourth wins in the land of Kelly Clarkson after she cruised past local player, Kelsey Laurente (rank ITF 281) 6-3, 6-3. In the next round, Ysidora Tobing will play against Mexican lucky loser Giuliana Olmos who ousted American Victoria Duval 6-2, 6-4 in round 64.

Meanwhile the younger Indonesian, Ravita (ITF 622) posted her first ever victory in Grade 2 as she fought back to beat American Skylar Kuykendall (ITF 288) 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. In second round, she will face Canadian second seed Katarena Paliivets who edged past American Katie Goepel 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles, Ysidora Tobing is partnered with American Annie Mulholland and they are placed as second seed. Eleventh seed in singles, Mulholland crashed out in the opening round as she bowed out to local wild card Kendal Woodard 2-6, 6-7(7). Duo Ysidora Tobing/Mulholland got first round bye.

Tananta returns to number two

WTA ranks for Indonesians as per November 2, 2009

Ayu Fani Damayanti strongly holds her top spot at WTA 275. As I have anticipated, Sandy Gumulya and Lavinia Tananta are in competition for number two spot. And indeed Tananta returned to her number two position with career high at WTA 388. Meanwhile Gumulya fell down to WTA 596, after she lost 50 points as the winner of Augusta, Georgia 25K dated on October 26, 2008. In the meantime as per October 28, 2009 Gumulya withdrew from qualifying list of Taipei 100K so Tananta will maintain her number two spot as she is playing Kuching, Sarawak 10K this week.

Jessy Rompies also gained position to be number three as she is ranked at WTA 450 this week. Then "veteran" Romana Tedjakusuma stays as number five with latest rank at WTA 628. Both players should take the opportunity at Kuching, Sarawak 10K in adding more ranking points.

Number one junior player of Indonesia, Grace Sari Ysidora is indeed still focusing on her junior circuit in North America, and with only three pro tournaments so far, she is reaching highest rank of her pro career at WTA 769.

At the bottom, Beatrice Gumulya is now ranked at WTA 917 and has chance to gain more points at Kuching, Sarawak 10K this week.
