Second seed Yonemura denies Doi's maiden title

Fourth seed Misaki Doi failed again in the final at "Tokyu Harvest Cup Hamanako ITF Womens Circuit" in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka-ken, Japan on Sunday, October 4, 2009. It was Doi's back to back failure to capture her 25K's maiden title and this time despite her strong fight, in the end she had to barely lose 4-6, 6-7(3) to second seed Tomoko Yonemura. And it was certainly a sweet revenge for older Yonemura after she lost to younger Doi 4-6, 6-7(5) in quarterfinal at Makinohara a week before.

As for 27 years old Yonemura, on Sunday's final it was her fourth 25K's final appearance after Nagano and Miyazaki both in 2006, then Gunma in 2008. Out of these four finals, she claimed three titles in Nagano, Miyazaki and this time at Hamanako. As the winner, Yonemura collected US $ 2,940.00, while Doi as runner-up bagged US $ 1,666.00

Junior Fed Cup Final: Indonesia won over fifth seed Tunisia & finished at 9th place

The final along with other play-offs were held at La Loma Centro Deportivo in San Luis Potosi, Mexico on Sunday (October 4, 2009). Indonesia clinched its third and final victory as Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing and Cynthia Melita battled past fifth seed Tunisia 2-1 and Indonesia finished at 9th place out of 16 nations.

Indonesia was trailed 0-1 first as Cynthia Melita (ranked at ITF 258) bowed out to Sonia Daggou (ranked at ITF 572) 3-6, 6-2, 4-6. Then Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing (ranked at ITF 42) played very well to beat improved Ons Jabeur (ranked at ITF 66) 6-0, 6-3 in the second rubber to force the deciding rubber. Eventually in do or die battle, duo Melita/Ysidora Tobing edged past duet Nour Abbes/Jabeur 6-4, 7-5.

The very first time Indonesia made it into World Group in 1999 and then Indonesian U-16 team was qualified again in 2000. Back in those years it was still called "NEC World Youth Cup". In 1999, Indonesia finished at 14th place, then in 2000 Final in Hiroshima, Japan when Indonesian team comprised of Angelique Widjaja, Novianti Warsono and Diana Nur Fatimah, they ended at 7th place. Nevertheless, this time Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing, Cynthia Melita and Rekyan Woro made a history by recording second best outcome for their beloved country.

In the final, top seed Russia battled past fourth seed Germany 2-0. Russia grabbed early lead 1-0 as Ksenia Kirillova edged past Stephanie Wagner 6-3, 4-6, 8-6 and followed by Daria Gavrilova who secured her team's championshipberth after she cruised past Annika Beck 6-0, 6-3. The last rubber was not played at all.

Meanwhile second seed Slovak Republic defeated third seed Japan 2-1 and the girls from Hantuchova's land eventually finished at third place, while Japan ended at fourth place.

Junior Fed Cup Final: Indonesia crushed Peru in 9th to 12th place play-off

The play-offs for 9th to 12th place and 13th to 16th place were held at La Loma Centro Deportivo in San Luis Potosi, Mexico on Friday (October 2, 2009). Indonesia clinched its second victory as Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing and Cynthia Melita outclassed Peruvian team 3-0 and they secured their berth in the play-off for 9th and 10th place on Sunday (October 4, 2009) against fifth seed Tunisia.

Indonesia took immediate lead 1-0 as Cynthia Melita (ranked at ITF 258) cruised past Ximena Siles-Luna (ranked at ITF 289) 6-1, 6-3. Followed by Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing (ranked at ITF 42) who breezed past Patricia Ku (no ITF rank recorded) 6-2, 6-2 in the second rubber to ensure Indonesia into final play-off. Eventually in the last rubber, duo Melita/Ysidora Tobing saw-off duet Mayte Calmet/Ximena Siles-Luna 6-3, 6-3.

In semi-finals on Saturday (October 3, 2009), top seed Russia battled past third seed Japan 2-1. Russia grabbed early lead 1-0 as Ksenia Kirillova edged past Risa Ozaki 6-2, 7-6(6) and then Daria Gavrilova secured her team's berth into final after she battled past Akiko Omae 6-4, 6-4. In doubles, duo Emi Mutaguchi/Akiko Omae defeated Daria Gavrilova/Polina Leykina 6-4, 6-3.

Meanwhile fourth seed Germany shocked second seed Slovak Republic also 2-1 and the girls from Graf's land will challenge the Russian team in the final.

Fourth seed Doi toppled top seed Nara

First seed Kurumi Nara stumbled in semi-final at "Tokyu Harvest Cup Hamanako ITF Womens Circuit" in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka-ken, Japan on Saturday, October 3, 2009. As the locomotive of her three compatriots in the last four round, Nara failed to keep-up her consistency and she was ousted by her 18 years old compatriot and left-handed fourth seed Misaki Doi 2-6, 2-6 as both players for the first time battled each other in pro circuit. It was really an amazing run by Doi who made it into 25K's final back to back. Last week at Makinohara, she bowed out to experienced Shieh Su-Wei of Chinese Taipei in final.

The two players, Nara and Doi are the next in line after Ayumi Morita, as they used to be Japan's top junior players. Nara's highest junior rank was at ITF 5, while Doi's best junior rank was at ITF 44. At "Pangdam Siliwangi Cup 2006", an ITF Grade 4 tourney in Bandung, Indonesia, Doi was ousted by local "rookie" Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing 6-2, 3-6, 3-6 in semi-final. At that time, it was only Ysidora Tobing's second ITF tourney she had participated in. These two players, Nara and Doi tied at 1-1 in their head to head in junior circuit. In the first meeting, Doi defeated Nara in 2007, then Nara got her revenge in 2008 and both matches at Japan Open Junior Championships (ITF Grade 1) in Nagoya. Nara and Doi partnered in doubles for several times and they were finalists at Junior Wimbledon 2007.

Also advancing into final was local second seed Tomoko Yonemura who had to work hard again same as in the quarterfinal. In the last four round, Yonemura was down a set but then she bounced back to beat her compatriot Natsumi Hamamura 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles' final, top seed duet Carly Gullickson/Nicole Kriz (USA/Australia) rallied from a set deficit to defeat second seed pair Yayuk Basuki/Hwang I-Hsuan (Indonesia/Chinese Taipei) 4-6, 7-6(2), 10-5. So, Gullickson and Kriz shared the prize money of US $ 1,176.00 while Basuki/Hwang as a pair bagged US $ 686.00

Local domination in semi-finals of Hamanako 25K

First seed Kurumi Nara stormed into semi-finals at "Tokyu Harvest Cup Hamanako ITF Womens Circuit" in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka-ken, Japan on Friday, October 2, 2009. She was truly the locomotive of her three compatriots who also cruised into the last four round. In quarterfinal, 17 years old Nara had an easy outing as she breezed past compatriot and 25 years old qualifier Sakiko Shimizu 6-1, 6-2.

Also advancing into the last four round, local second seed Tomoko Yonemura who had to work hard in earning her semi-final spot as she was forced to lose the opening set and then she bounced back to defeat compatriot Ai Yamamoto 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Meanwhile local fourth seed Misaki Doi secured all Japanese semi-finals after she booted out Hsu Wen-Hsin of Chinese Taipei 6-0, 6-1. And last but not least local unseeded player Natsumi Hamamura also moved into the last four round despite another thriller. Hamamura had to play tough battle but she prevailed to beat local qualifier Sachie Ishizu 7-5, 3-6, 6-0.

In doubles' semi-finals, top seed duet Carly Gullickson/Nicole Kriz (USA/Australia) cruised past local duet Maki Arai/Akari Inoue 6-2, 7-6(4). In final, Gullickson/Kriz will clash with second seed pair Yayuk Basuki/Hwang I-Hsuan (Indonesia/Chinese Taipei) who improved their partnership's performance by reaching the last stage of competition this week. Duo Basuki/Hwang edged past local pair Shiho Hisamatsu/Ayaka Maekawa 6-3, 7-6(3).

Junior Fed Cup Final: Indonesia earned victory over Croatia

The third Round Robin ties of the Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas was staged at La Loma Centro Deportivo in San Luis Potosi, Mexico on Thursday (October 1, 2009). In Group A, Indonesia finally tasted a victory after defeating Croatia 2-1. Indonesia took lead first 1-0 when Cynthia Melita (ranked at ITF 258) dispatched Matea Cutura (ranked at ITF 1452) 6-4, 6-2. World ranked number 7 Ajla Tomljanovic tied it 1-1 as she cruised past Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing (ranked at ITF 42) 6-3, 6-1 in the second rubber. Eventually in the deciding battle, duo Melita/Ysidora Tobing edged past duet Tomljanovic/Dora Vajdic 6-3, 6-4. By claiming a win, Indonesian team finished as number three in Group A after top seed Russia and Croatia. In 9th to 12th place play-off, Indonesian team will clash with Peruvian team.

In Group B, Japanese girls clinched as top finishers after they defeated Ukraine team 2-1. Ukraine sealed 1-0 first when Katerina ozlova edged past Risa Ozaki 7-5, 6-3 and it was Akiko Omae who made it 1-1 after she had to go through thriller but prevailed to beat Elina Svitolina 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Finally duo Omae/Ozaki securd their victory as they defeated Kozlova/Svitolina also in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
