Davis Cup: The Kiwis lead 1-0

The Davis Cup tie, New Zealand vs Indonesia, kicked-off at the Perry Arena in Hamilton, New Zealand at 2 pm local time today. In the opening singles rubber, New Zealand number one Dan King-Turner opened with a strong game along with some aces but Indonesian number two player, Sunu Wahyu Trijati fought back with a series of long deuce games each time he served, and held his serve until four games all. Eventually King-Turner then broke and went on to claim the opening set 6-4.

The second set was indeed easier for King-Turner, who took it 6-1, closing the set out with another booming ace. In the third set both players held serve until 4-4, but King-Turner secured the match for New Zealand 6-4, 6-1, 6-4.

A surprise news came as GD Jones was to substitute New Zealand’s number two player Rubin Statham, who apparently woke up with a head cold. Jones, is known as an experienced Davis Cup player, and he will face the Indonesian numero uno, Christopher Rungkat in the second singles rubber of the day.
