Number one Indonesian junior player, Grace Sari Ysidora Tobing simply had bad luck as she came into the opening round with fever and she just barely had energy to play decently. As result, currently world ranked at ITF 37 Ysidora Tobing bowed out to Tunisian Nour Abbes (ranked at ITF 84) 5-7, 2-6 at the prestigious Grade A tourney known as "Dunlop Orange Bowl" on Tuesday (December 8, 2009). She had no choice but to withdraw from doubles competition as her condition became worst after the match. Prior to the tournament, Ysidora Tobing was asked by number one player of China, Zheng Saisai to play doubles together. As a matter of fact, Ysidora Tobing and Zheng were placed as seventh seed.
In the opening day last Monday (December 7, 2009) the winner of “Yucatan World Cup Grade 1” Lauren Davis of USA claimed the biggest upset at Crandon Park, Key Biscayne, Florida. A resident of Cleveland, Ohio, Davis shocked US Open's runner-up and Russian ninth seed Yana Buchina with 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 victory in 3 hours and 8 minutes. More surprises were capitalized by two more local players, Noel Scott and 14 years old Madison Keys. Scott played well to dispatch Chilean seventh seed Camila Silva 5-4, 6-0, while her compatriot Keys eased past Hungarian eleventh seed Zsofia Susanyi 6-2, 6-3 also in the first round.
Three out of four highest seeded players did not have any problem to defeat their opponents. World number one and top seed Kristina Mladenovic of France had comfortable win over Romanian Ilinca Stoica 6-4, 6-3. Followed by Briton third seed Heather Watson who posted a victory over local wild card Krista Hardebeck 6-2, 6-2. Also cruising into second round was Croat fourth seed Silvia Njiric after she disposed German Sina Haas 6-3, 6-0.
On the second day, second seed Timea Babos of Hungary began her campaign and she did not have much trouble to beat recent runner-up at "Eddie Herr International" Zhao Di from China 6-2, 6-4. This season Babos grabbed 2 titles in Asia and recently she became runner-up at "Osaka Mayor's Cup" where she lost to French Kristina Mladenovic in final.
Three more seeded players crashed out in the opening round. 14 years old Russian lefty and 12th seed Irina Khromacheva was defeated by Anna Orlik from Belarus 3-6, 2-6. Then the highest local hope and 15th seed Beatrice Capra was forced to lose to Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski 3-6, 6-4, 0-2 retired. Also being eliminated was Russian 16th seed Ksenia Kirillova who started the battle in solid performance but then she was beaten by Croat qualifier Antonela Susak 6-0, 4-6, 4-6.
