Indonesian girls crush Sri Lanka in Junior Fed Cup qualifying
Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying event for the Junior Davis & Fed Cup began its opening day in Shepparton, Victoria today. In Group B, third seed of Junior Fed Cup qualifying, Indonesia eased past Sri Lanka 3-0. Indonesian anchor Grace Sari Ysidora won easily over Nilushi Fernando 6-1, 6-0, followed by Cynthia Melita who crushed Kemalie Herath 6-0, 6-0 and eventually in doubles, Melita and Rekyan Woro defeated Kemalie Herath and Sherine Wijesingha 6-1, 6-2. A shock was made by Pinoy girls when Philippines gunned down fifth seed India 2-1. Number two player Ma Regina Santiago saw-off Ratnika Batra 6-2, 6-1 then numero uno Anna Clarice Patromonio edged past Shweta Rana 6-3, 6-3 and in the last rubber Indian duo Shweta Rana/Rishika Sunkara had to work hard before they defeated Patrimonio/Santiago 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Today, Philippines will impose challenge towards Indonesia, while neighbors' battle will be staged between India and Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile in Junior Davis Cup competition, results of Group B were sixth seed Thailand crushed Indonesia 3-0. First singles, Warit Sombutnark eased past Rizki Bagus Saputra 6-3, 6-1, then Nudchanon Kadchapanan edged past Wisnu Adi Nugroho 6-3, 6-4, and finally in doubles, duo Thai Aviruth Phapui and Sombutnark defeated Nugroho and Jason Joey Alexander 6-3, 6-3. In the meantime, third seed Uzbekistan also booted out Malaysia 3-0. First point earned by Uzbekistan when Jakhongir Jalolov cruised past Mohamed Nazim Khan 6-2, 6-1, then Sergey Shipilov crushed Ariez Elyaas Deen Heesham 6-0, 6-0 and eventually duo Jalolov and Shipilov barely defeated Deen Heesham and Mohd Assri Merzuki 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3.
