Syarifah romps into her first ever semi-final, while Destriana bows out

Good result was capitalized by Indonesian fifth seed Nadya Syarifah as she reached Grade 4 semi-final for the very first time at "BKSP International Junior Championships" in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Thursday (February 18, 2010). Syarifah hails from Cianjur, West Java - she cruised past Indian 15th seed Bhuvana Kalva (currently ranked at ITF 675) 6-3, 6-0.

Chinese players will dominate the last four round after their three players all through and one of them, Ou Xuanshuo, shocked Indonesian top seed Bella Destriana by winning 7-5, 6-2. Along her junior career, Destriana had made semi-finals of Grade 4 twice and those were in Solo 2008 and Perak, Malaysia 2009. Meanwhile 16 years old Ou just earned her ITF ranking recently based on her outcome as quarterfinalist twice at Grade 5 tourneys in her country last January. This week Ou is ranked at ITF 1035.

Ou began her junior career by coming to her first ever participation abroad in Jakarta, Indonesia and she chose "Thamrin Cup International Junior Championships 2008" which was known as quite popular Grade 4 tourney in South East Asia. Ou had to go through qualifying round and eventually she finished as quarterfinalist as she was beaten by local Cynthia Melita. Afterwards Ou continued on to play "ITF Oneject International Junior Championships 2008" - another Grade 4 tourney in Bandung, West Java where she lost in second round of qualifying.

Two more Chinese players also booked their place in semi-finals. Seventh seed Deng Meng Ning surprised Briton wild card and 2nd seed Amy Askew as she was able to fight back and won 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. While Yin Xianghong also sealed a victory over 14th seed Donna Vekic from Croatia 6-1, 6-4.

In doubles, top seed pair Destriana/Melita also cruised into semi-final. In second round or round 16, Destriana/Melita barely edged past Dutch pair, Nikki Luttikhuis/Maurien Rikkert 7-6(3), 6-4. Then in quarterfinal, the Indonesian duet defeated sixth seed pair Chuen Chu-Chen/Katherine IP (China Taipei/Hong Kong) 6-3, 6-1. In the last four round, Destriana/Melita will face China's seventh seed pair, Deng/Ou.
