Melita and Syarifah cruise into round 16
Only two of three Indonesian girls continued their action at an ITF Grade 3 tourney called "Rajshahi International Junior Championships 2010" in Rajshahi, Bangladesh on Tuesday (February 23, 2010). In second round or round 32, unseeded Cynthia Melita and 12th seed Nadya Syarifah claimed their victory, while fifth seed Bella Destriana stumbled.
Hard hitter Melita, since she is non-seeded player, it is safe to say that she surprised ninth seed Sharon Sanchana Paul of India with 6-1, 6-0 victory. In third round or round 16, Melita will face seventh seed Amy Askew from Great Britain who also sealed an easy win over wild card Mandy Wagemaker from the Netherlands 6-0, 6-1.
Also reaching round 16 was 12th seed Syarifah as she dispatched Briton qualifier Roisin Mullins 6-3, 6-0. In third round Syarifah will challenge Russian sixth seed Anna Tyulpa who had to work hard to claim a victory over Chuen Chiu-Chen of Chinese Taipei 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.
Fifth seed Destriana suffered a loss after she was shocked and bowed out to Indian Ratnika Batra 2-6, 2-6. Batra, 15 years old, is currently ranked at ITF 517.
Winner of last week's Dhaka Grade 4 tourney, 15th seed Deng Meng Ning from China, also fell in second round as she was beaten by 15 years old Shabina Sharipova 5-7, 2-6. Sharipova is now ranked at ITF 521 and she has been playing pro tour more than junior circuit. Currently Sharipova is ranked at WTA 409.
In the opening round as seeded players, Destriana and Syarifah received bye. Meanwhile Melita and Efriliya Herlina had to play from first round. Without any difficulty, Melita booted out local wild card Sharda Sharmin Alam 6-0, 6-0. In contrast, Herlina still struggled to demonstrate her utmost capacity as she lost to Croat Donna Vekic 3-6, 2-6. After playing two tourneys in Bangladesh, Herlina is still unable to gain rank points.

Syarifah runs out of gas in the end
Hoping to exceed her career's best outcome, Indonesian fifth seed Nadya Syarifah showed her fighting attitude but in the end she just got worn out as she eventually lost to seventh seed Deng Meng Ning from China in the semi-final of "BKSP International Junior Championships 2010" in Dhaka, Bangladesh today.
Playing in her first ever Grade 4 semi-final, Syarifah failed to maintain her winning momentum in the opening set and despite her determination to fight all the way, she simply could not prevail. Syarifah bowed out to China's Deng 6-4, 6-7(8), 0-6. Deng is 16 years old and as per this week she is ranked at ITF 473 and is playing only her 7th tournament here ever since she began her junior career as of September 2008. Here in Dhaka is her first ever tourney outside China and last year in only her 2nd tourney, as a qualifier she became semi-finalist at ITF Grade 3 tournament in Xiamen, China. And only last month, Deng finished as runner-up at ITF Grade 5 tourney in Guangzhou, China.
In the other last four round, two Chinese players had to battle each other. It was indeed a different kind of duel, Yin Xianghong posted a relatively easy victory over Ou Xuanshuo 6-2, 6-1. Also 16 years old, Yin is only ranked at ITF 1655 right now. She started her junior career at "Thamrin Cup International Junior Championships 2008" in Jakarta. Back then she had to go through qualifying round and in the main draw immediately she lost to Indonesian top seed Grace Sari Ysidora in the opening round. Today's result is truly Yin's biggest achievement of her career.
In doubles, top seed pair Bella Destriana/Cynthia Melita also crashed out in semi-final today. The Indonesian duet bowed out to seventh seed pair of China, Deng/Ou 0-6, 3-6. In final, the Chinese duet then will face unseeded pair, Bhuvana Kalva/Mandy Wagemaker (India/Netherlands) who barely won over second seed duo Sowjanya Bavisetti/Tsao Fang-Chi (India/Chinese Taipei) 7-5, 7-6(4).

Syarifah romps into her first ever semi-final, while Destriana bows out
Good result was capitalized by Indonesian fifth seed Nadya Syarifah as she reached Grade 4 semi-final for the very first time at "BKSP International Junior Championships" in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Thursday (February 18, 2010). Syarifah hails from Cianjur, West Java - she cruised past Indian 15th seed Bhuvana Kalva (currently ranked at ITF 675) 6-3, 6-0.
Chinese players will dominate the last four round after their three players all through and one of them, Ou Xuanshuo, shocked Indonesian top seed Bella Destriana by winning 7-5, 6-2. Along her junior career, Destriana had made semi-finals of Grade 4 twice and those were in Solo 2008 and Perak, Malaysia 2009. Meanwhile 16 years old Ou just earned her ITF ranking recently based on her outcome as quarterfinalist twice at Grade 5 tourneys in her country last January. This week Ou is ranked at ITF 1035.
Ou began her junior career by coming to her first ever participation abroad in Jakarta, Indonesia and she chose "Thamrin Cup International Junior Championships 2008" which was known as quite popular Grade 4 tourney in South East Asia. Ou had to go through qualifying round and eventually she finished as quarterfinalist as she was beaten by local Cynthia Melita. Afterwards Ou continued on to play "ITF Oneject International Junior Championships 2008" - another Grade 4 tourney in Bandung, West Java where she lost in second round of qualifying.
Two more Chinese players also booked their place in semi-finals. Seventh seed Deng Meng Ning surprised Briton wild card and 2nd seed Amy Askew as she was able to fight back and won 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. While Yin Xianghong also sealed a victory over 14th seed Donna Vekic from Croatia 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles, top seed pair Destriana/Melita also cruised into semi-final. In second round or round 16, Destriana/Melita barely edged past Dutch pair, Nikki Luttikhuis/Maurien Rikkert 7-6(3), 6-4. Then in quarterfinal, the Indonesian duet defeated sixth seed pair Chuen Chu-Chen/Katherine IP (China Taipei/Hong Kong) 6-3, 6-1. In the last four round, Destriana/Melita will face China's seventh seed pair, Deng/Ou.

Only two Indonesian girls into Dhaka's quarterfinals
Two Indonesian girls still left in the main draw of "BKSP International Junior Championships 2010" - an ITF Grade 4 tourney which is held at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan, Dhaka, Bangladesh up to third round or round 16 on Wednesday (02/17/2010).
The two players who will play in quarterfinals are 18 years old top seed Bella Destriana and 16 years old fifth seed Nadya Syarifah. Still trying to grab her ITF Grade 4 maiden title, Destriana cruised past Indian 13th seed, Smriti Joon 6-3, 6-3, while Syarifah had an ease outing as she won 6-0, 6-2 over Indian 10th seed, Sri Vaishnavi Peddi Reddy to secure a place in the last eight round. Destriana, a resident of Palembang, South Sumatra will face the challenge from Chinese Ou Xuanshuo in quarterfinal. Ou booked her quarterfinal berth after she breezed past Briton Roisin Mullins 6-1, 6-2. Then her junior Syarifah will play against Indian 15th seed Bhuvana Kalva who shocked fourth seed Tsao Fang-Chi of Chinese Taipei 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
All seeded players including Destriana and Syarifah received bye in the opening round. In second round yesterday, Destriana booted out Kao Pei-Wen from Chinese Taipei 6-1, 6-0. Followed by Syarifah who posted a comfortable victory 6-2, 6-2 over Briton Eden Silva 6-2, 6-2.
Another Indonesian who played in third round was 9th seed Cynthia Melita but she bowed out to China's Yin Xianghong 5-7, 6-2, 4-6 in her attempt to return to top 300. In second round, Melita almost double bageled Indian Sai Samhitha Chamarthi but in the end she won 6-1, 6-0.
The youngest of the pack here, 16th seed Efriliya Herlina wasted her opportunity and had to be content by playing only one match. 14 years old Herlina exited in second round after she bowed out to Indian Rimpledeep Kaur Batth 0-6, 3-6. As at this week Herlina is ranked at ITF 789 and so far her best outcome was reaching round 16 in Grade 4.
In doubles, fifth seed pair Herlina and Syarifah got first round bye then yesterday they lost to Bhuvana Kalva/Mandy Wagemaker (India/Netherlands) 1-6, 4-6 in seocnd round. In the meantime, top seed duo Destriana/Melita will play second round on Thursday.

Ysidora still goes up to reach new career high
WTA rank for Indonesian players as at February 15, 2010
Singles
1. 297 (296) Ayu Fani Damayanti - 145 points, 13 tourneys
2. 404 (408) Lavinia Tananta - 85 points, 11 tourneys
3. 456 (456) Jessy Rompies - 72 points, 15 tourneys
4. 615 (616) Sandy Gumulya - 40 points, 8 tourneys
5. 665 (664) Romana Tedjakusuma - 33 points, 7 tourneys
6. 754 (757) Grace Sari Ysidora - 22 points, 3 tourneys
7. 887 (890) Beatrice Gumulya - 13 points, 7 tourneys
The only junior player with pro ranking, Grace Sari Ysidora, despite her priority on junior circuit, she is still able to clinch her highest rank ever at WTA 754. Meanwhile on top of the list, Ayu Fani Damayanti is slightly lower at WTA 297 along with veteran Romana Tedjakusuma slips at WTA 665. The others such as Lavinia Tananta and the Gumulyas are slightly improving their ranks respectively. Then Jessy Rompies remains at the same ranking as last week.
Doubles
1. 142 (159) Yayuk Basuki - 489 points, 12 tourneys
2. 270 (272) Romana Tedjakusuma - 208 points, 9 tourneys
3. 307 (306) Lavinia Tananta - 171 points, 13 tourneys
4. 310 (309) Jessy Rompies - 170 points, 15 tourneys
5. 357 (355) Ayu Fani Damayanti - 138 points, 8 tourneys
6. 384 (380) Beatrice Gumulya - 123 points, 12 tourneys
7. 814 (816) Sandy Gumulya - 21 points, 3 tourneys
8. 814 (816) Laili Rahmawati Ulfa - 21 points, 3 tourneys
Only former queen Yayuk Basuki is worth to be noted since she was the only player competing on the tour last week. Basuki was supposed to partner with Japanese veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm at "PTT Pattaya Open" last week. But unfortunately Date-Krumm twisted her ankle, so then Basuki had to find a new one and eventually she got younger Japanese Yurika Sema. This new duo Basuki/Sema lost in the quarterfinal to the eventual champs, Marina Erakovic/Tamarine Tanasugarn. So, with such outcome, Basuki gained new points and it was good enough to improve her rank at WTA 142.

All seven players are still maintaining the same position. Ever since Indonesia participated in Fed Cup event in 1969, Damayanti and her team mates put Indonesian tennis in its very low condition. Our Fed Cup team faced the fact to compete in Group II next year.
