Indonesian tennis is practically dead
It has been a long time since I have written here and honestly I have been upset with Indonesian tennis so then as I got another opportunity to write in different portal, I made myself available. As for Indonesian women players, in the last few months only the veteran Romana Tedjakusuma has been maintaining her tour as she lives in the US. Meanwhile the two remaining players at the notorious BMW camp, Ayu Fani Damayanti and Lavinia Tananta have been taking hiatus for a while but the good news is soon they will resume their tour to Australia.
The latest WTA singles ranking list for Indonesian (as at August 20, 2012):
1. WTA 345 (341) Ayu Fani Damayanti 133 points (11 tourneys)
2. WTA 468 (468) Romana Tedjakusuma 70 points (16 tourneys)
3. WTA 606 (606) Lavinia Tananta 42 points (9 tourneys)
4. WTA 679 (678) Jessy Rompies 32 points (5 tourneys)
5. WTA 818 (771) Grace Sari Ysidora 19 points (4 tourneys)
Jessy Rompies has followed Beatrice Gumulya to join the squad of Clemson University in the US, so they both are playing tennis and studying at the university. Next month it will be Grace Sari Ysidora's turn to leave for University of Washington in Seattle, Washington state as she got a scholarship to play tennis and study Business Administration. Grace will be the second Indonesian to play at University of Washington after Dea Sumantri also hails from Bandung, West Java. A university tennis player is still allowed to play pro tourneys but they could only take their prize money after they graduate.

OkeShop returns to world tennis map
The US$ 20,000 OkeShop International Tennis Men’s Futures and Women’s Circuit Tournament will be slated from May 22-29 at Gelora Bung Karno Tennis Complex, Jakarta. It is OkeShop’s 4th consecutive year as main sponsor in partnership with Sportama. This co-event has attracted a strong field of entries, of which over half represent the younger generation of tennis players making their way to the top of their profession.
In men’s category, heading the field is Aussie Mark Verryth (rank ATP 524) who played Futures in Indonesia last year and 2008. Verryth will try to improve his 8-8 record so far this season after earning 2 titles in Japan and Mexico last year. A towering 6’6” Verryth will face some stiff challenge from Indonesian numero uno Christopher Rungkat (rank ATP 590) and also Japanese Arata Onozawa (rank ATP 597). Beside Rungkat who was a semi-finalist at OkeShop Men’s Futures Tournament last year, Bandung resident Elbert Sie (rank ATP 1051) is another Indonesian in the main draw.
In the women’s main draw, local players will be led by currently Indonesian number three Jessy Rompies (rank WTA 433) and followed by 2007 SEA Games’ gold medalist, Sandy Gumulya (rank WTA 535). Four more players also in the main draw are 16 years old Voni Darlina (rank WTA 845), Indonesia’s former junior queen Grace Sari Ysidora (rank WTA 907), hard hitter Cynthia Melita (rank WTA 919) and currently Indonesian junior number one Aldila Sutjiadi (rank WTA 1080). Two young Chinese players, Zhu Lin (rank WTA 645) and Yang Zi (rank WTA 815) along with Russian teenager Ksenia Kirillova (rank WTA 735) will add such fierce competition indeed. The qualifying rounds of this event will be held on May 22 & 23, while the main draw will commence on May 24.
By having Dunlop as the official ball, this international event will also hold “OkeShop Junior Classic” – a national junior tournament for 10 & Under, 12 & Under and 14 & Under. This particular competition is aimed to motivate young players in training rigorously so that they will strive for playing international junior circuits. In addition, Sportama will stage veteran tourney for the age of 40 years old and 50 years old with total prize money of 60 million rupiahs. With this veteran competition, it is hoped that this specific age group will maintain their tennis activity along with searching and developing young potential players. Moreover, it is important to maintain friendship among veterans as well as exchange experience on young age tennis development in their own region.
In the official press conference being held yesterday at Nan Xiang & Shanghai Cuisine Outlets which is located in The Sultan Hotel, Mr. Johannes Bima, Chief Marketing of PT Trikomsel Oke Tbk stated, “OkeShop International Tournament which began in 2008 – it is truly our commitment to support Indonesian tennis players’ achievement.” He also added that OkeShop has more than 800 shops allover Indonesia and through tennis players and their circles, we believe that they are our potential market. An international tourney is highly needed by Indonesian players to crank-up their world ranking. By getting better rank, they will have wide opportunity to enter other international tournaments. Therefore, it is the only way for Indonesian players to claim their highest performance.

Format and Scoring for Team Tennis
Game Scoring
The scoring is no-ad. This means a game is won by the first player/team to win four points. If the game reaches deuce (3-3), the receiving player/team chooses which side of the court to receive from.
Set Scoring
A match consists of four separate 6-game no-ad sets and includes two singles, and two doubles. The first team to reach 6 games wins each no-ad set. A 9-point tiebreaker will be played at 5-5 in any set. On 1 court, the order of play is: single, double single, and double.
Match Scoring and Overtime
The winner of the match will be the team that wins the most games. After all games are totaled, if the trailing team wins the #4 doubles set, the match is not over. Doubles play continues until the leading team wins another game or the trailing team ties the score. If a tie occurs, a Super-Tiebreaker will be used to determine the winner of the match.
Warm-Up Time
Warm-up is with your teammates. All players are allowed a 5-minute warm-up. Once play has begun, a 3-minute warm-up is allowed between sets.
Service Order
The Home team serves first in all doubles sets. The Visiting team serves first in the singles sets. Since the service order is predetermined, the receiving team selects the end of the court from which they will receive.
Changing Ends
After every odd games, the players change ends. In the 9-point tiebreaker, players change ends only after the first 4 points. In the Super-Tiebreaker, players change ends only after the first 6 points.
Coaching
Coaching is allowed throughout the match as long as it does not interfere with continuous play. We encourage team members to stand along the court and support their team members.
Default Rules
Time: 15 minute team default = match default 36-0 15 minute player default = set default 6-0
Injury
If a player defaults during a set and cannot be substituted for, the score will be recorded with the games played standing with the opposing team receiving 6 games.
Tiebreakers
9 Point Tiebreaker
A 9-point tiebreaker will be played at 5-5 in any set. The person who is next to serve begins the tiebreaker. Each player serves 2 points in succession starting from the deuce court. Players change sides after 4 points. The first team (person) to score 5 points wins the tiebreaker. If the score reaches 4-4, the person who served the 8th point serves the 9th (final) point. The receiver has the choice of side (except in mixed doubles where it must be gender to gender). The winner of the 9th point is the winner of the set.
Super-Tiebreaker
If the match enters into a Super-Tiebreaker, a coin toss will decide which team serves first. The Super-Tiebreaker should be treated as a new set and substitutions are allowed. Either player on the serving team may serve first. In addition, the court positions may be changed. Each player serves 2 points in succession starting from the deuce court. Players change sides after 6 points. The first team to score 7 points wins the Super-Tiebreaker. If the Super-Tiebreaker reaches 6-6, the person who served the 12th point will serve the 13th (final) point. Since this set is mixed doubles, the final serve will be gender to gender. The winner of the 13th point wins the Super-Tiebreaker and the match

Syarifah moves on, Sutjiadi falls
